10 Misconceptions About Jesus: #2 – Jesus is the same as He was

In 10 Misconceptions about Jesus: #1: We discovered that Jesus was not a male model. He’d probably never heard of ‘Magnum’ or ‘Blue Steel.’ It is unlikely that He was really, really, really, ridiculously good looking.

Here’s another little known fact:

He is not as He was.

No matter what kind of historical reconstruction we can achieve, Jesus does not look like He did while on earth. He is also not doing what He did back then.

When we think of Jesus, we often imagine him roaming around the countryside, wearing a white toga with a bright red sash. What does He do all day? He hangs out with the poor, heals people, and gives non-judgmental Bible studies.

The problem is that He no longer does that. What, then, does He do? And what does He look like?

We already discovered that while Jesus was in the flesh, He was an unattractive Jewish guy, with a beard, and short hair.

But that all changed after His resurrection.

What changed? Two things:

1. He regained all power and authority:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Matthew 28:19 CSB

His self-imposed shackles were off. His period of temporary Trinitarian inequality was over. (see Philippians 2:6-8)

2. He took His seat at the right hand of the Father:

Paul wrote this about Jesus’ locale:

“So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1 CSB

Jesus, Himself, said this:

“But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God” Luke 22:69 CSB

Jesus is not roaming the highways and byways of heaven, being a nice guy, and hanging out with His peeps.

Nope.

At this very moment, He is ruling the universe, seated at the right hand of the Father.

That’s what He’s doing, but what does He look like?

On a certain Sunday during John’s exile on the island of Patmos, he was in the Spirit and was told to write down what He saw. Here is His description of Jesus:

“I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me. When I turned I saw seven gold lampstands, and among the lampstands was One like the Son of Man, dressed in a long robe, and with a gold sash wrapped around His chest.  His head and hair were white like wool—white as snow, His eyes like a fiery flame,  His feet like fine bronze fired in a furnace, and His voice like the sound of cascading waters.  In His right hand He had seven stars; from His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was shining like the sun at midday. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man” Revelation 1:12-17 HCB

At this moment Jesus’ hair is white and His eyes are like a fiery flame.

In fact, we can forever settle the racial issues concerning Jesus’ skin color. If you want to know what Jesus’ skin color is, look at the sun at midday.

He no longer looks like what He did when He walked the earth.

He’s not white or black, but pure light.

  5. Ok, I’m gonna assume that you (author of this page) considers the new testament (maybe the old one too) as at the very least partly accurate, I have only seen the misconceptions articles and to your credit, you provide verses from the bible that at face value supports your point, on this part however you provide 2 verses mention his location 1 verse establishes omnipotence and finally one where John the Revelator tells his account of a vision he had.
so I ask, How do you know this? even assuming the accuracy of the new testament, what makes you think he isn’t in heaven preaching the same stuff he did in his time on earth to all the saved souls in heaven, looking just as he did on earth and only appears as a bright light to mortal men such as John the Revelator?

for the record I am an atheist, I don’t believe this man ever lived, and I think his story is a combination of a number of guys who claimed to be the son of Yahweh in the same area in the 1st century (historians from those days documented quite a few of them), that being said, for the sake of argument ill take the new testament at face value all we know about his current nature is who is generally sitting next to him, his omnipotence and the fact that a guy had a vision where he appeared as light with a beard (burning bush is soooo last testament am I right?)
so i repeat. how do you know this?
