Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, visited me for dinner. Over a roaring hearth, I mentioned that I had recently installed the Facebook app on my smart phone.
To my astonishment he grabbed my phone and threw it into the fire.
Of course I was upset because the photo sharing had become precious to me. After letting it burn for a moment, he grabbed the tongs and pulled it out.
He told me, “Hold out your hand. I assure you, it’s quite cool.”
I held out my hand and he dropped the phone into my palm. It didn’t burn me.
He asked me, “What do you see?”
Phone appeared unharmed by the fire.
“Nothing” I replied. “Nothing.”
He sighed in relief.
“Wait” I said. “There are markings on the app. It’s some form of html. I can’t read it”
“There are few who can” he replied grimly. “The language is that of Zuckerberg, which I will not utter here.”
“Zuckerberg?” I said, looking at him.
“In the common tongue it says:
One app to rule them all
One app to find them
One app to bring them all
And in the darkness bind them!”
I admit it, I pilfered this from an old version that poked fun at Bill Gates and Microsoft. It was titled “Bill Gates and the CD of Power.”
